When you tap Save in the TikTok app, the video comes with a moving TikTok logo and the creator's username. That is fine for sharing inside TikTok, but not if you want a clean offline copy for personal viewing. This guide explains how to get one from a public video and how to save only the audio.
What this works for
Public TikTok videos, public photo slideshows and the sound of public videos. Private accounts and videos hidden by the creator or by region restrictions cannot be fetched.
Step 1: Copy the TikTok link
In the app, tap Share and then Copy link. Short links such as vm.tiktok.com work. On a computer, copy the address from the address bar while the video is open.
Step 2: Paste it into SaveMedia
Open the TikTok video downloader. Leave the Video tab selected for the clip, or switch to the MP3 tab for the audio only. Paste the link and press Download.
Step 3: Save the file
- Video: click the download button to save the MP4. SaveMedia uses the HD file when TikTok provides one.
- MP3: the sound is saved as an audio file you can play offline.
- Photo slideshows: each image appears with its own button.
- iPhone: use Safari and move the file from Files to Photos with the share sheet. Android: Chrome saves to Downloads.
Why a clean copy is not a license to repost
Removing the watermark does not change who owns the video. If you share or repost someone else's TikTok, ask for permission and credit the creator. The sound in a video is often licensed music, so an MP3 saved for personal listening should not be used in your own videos unless you have the rights.
If the download fails
- Make sure the video is public by opening the link in a private window.
- Copy the link again from the Share menu; do not use a profile link.
- If you see a "too many requests" message, wait a minute. Both SaveMedia and the TikTok data source apply rate limits.
- Videos deleted by the creator or blocked in your region cannot be downloaded.
